Harper's Nicholson nets national honor

Harper College women's basketball player and Cary-Grove graduate Joslyn Nicholson has been named the NJCAA Division III Player of the Week by the NJCAA national office.

Nicholson received the award for her play in games from Dec. 8-14. In those two games, the 5-foot-10 sophomore forward averaged 26 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists and 4.5 steals per game while shooting 79 percent from the free throw line.

She scored a career-high 32 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in a 70-65 victory over Oakton. Nicholson followed that game up with 20 points, 13 rebounds and 5 steals against Kennedy-King College.

In 13 games this season, she is averaging a team-high 22.5 points (12th in nation), 11.1 rebounds (31st in nation), and 2.6 steals while shooting 76.6 percent (65-of-85) from the free throw line. She scored a game-high 29 points and snagged 15 rebounds in a win this week over Illinois Valley.
