Boys basketball: Week 3 MVP

Hinsdale Central senior Matt Rafferty has earned Daily Herald boys basketball MVP honors for his recent career-best 39-point performance in a victory over Notre Dame.

Matt Rafferty, Hinsdale Central: Rafferty did it all in a 74-70 victory over previously unbeaten Notre Dame. The 6-foot-7 senior scored a personal-high 39 points on 15-of-18 shooting from the field, including 4-of-4 3-point shooting. Rafferty grabbed 11 rebounds and dished 6 assists.

Payton Haas, Hersey: The senior guard had a night to remember, shooting 9-for-12 from the field and finishing with a season-high 26 points and 9 rebounds in a 64-50 victory over Elk Grove, handing the Grens their first Mid-Suburban East loss of the season.

Marquis Howard, West Aurora: The 5-foot-8 senior guard stood tall in a pair of Upstate Eight Valley Division wins. Howard made 10 of 11 shots including six 3-pointers for a career-high 26 points in a 72-38 win at Glenbard East. He followed with three more 3s and 11 points, 5 steals, 4 assists, 4 rebounds in a 75-54 win over Metea Valley.

Zac Lahrman, Wauconda: The Bulldogs benefitted from a "Zac Attack" in back-to-back victories. The junior forward poured in 20 points against Round Lake, before following up with a career-best 24 points against Woodstock North.

Jordan Lynch, South Elgin: With multiple teammates missing due to injuries, this 6-foot-1 forward assumed a larger role in 2 South Elgin victories. The junior scored a team-best 15 points, including the go-ahead putback with 2.9 seconds left, to lift South Elgin to a 1-point win over Waubonsie Valley. Lynch followed up with a team-high 17 points the next night as the Storm beat East Aurora 65-56.
