Girls basketball: Week 3 MVP

Grayslake North sophomore Sidney Lovitsch has earned Daily Herald girls basketball MVP honors for her recent performances in victories over Woodstock and Crystal Lake Central.

Sidney Lovitsch, Grayslake North: The Knights are loving Lovitsch. The sophomore wing led her team to back-to-back wins, scoring a career-high 26 points against Woodstock and then posting 15 points, 10 steals and 5 assists against Crystal Lake Central.

Emma Benoit, Hampshire: The Whip-Purs' 6-foot-2 junior scored 23 points and had 6 rebounds in a 40-26 win over Woodstock North and then came back with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals in a 49-32 victory over Palatine, which was Hampshire's fourth win in a row.

Gabrielle Rush, Hinsdale Central: The Princeton recruit scored 25 points in a West Suburban Silver contest against Glenbard West, canning three 3-point shots and 8 of 8 free throws. The senior guard also grabbed 16 rebounds, dished 7 assists and pilfered 4 steals.

Catherine Sherwood, Prospect: The senior forward scored 13 points with a team-high 7 rebounds in a 52-48 win over Hersey, then came back in less than a week to collect a team-high 10 points, team-high 5 steals and 6 rebounds in a 45-32 win that gave Buffalo Grove its only loss of the season.

Kalie Soris, Aurora Central Catholic: The Chargers picked up three big wins behind this senior guard. Soris started with 15 points and 4 steals in a 54-49 victory over IC Catholic Prep, then totaled 7 points, 3 assists and 3 steals in an overtime win against St. Edward, and she led the Chargers with 14 points and 6 steals in a 14-point victory at Rosary.
