Boys basketball: Week 2 MVPs

Senior forward Nick Traversa of Wheaton North has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for his recent performances in victories over Wheaton Warrenville South and Hinsdale South.

Nick Traversa, Wheaton North: Traversa led the Falcons to a pair of wins, including a cross-town victory over Wheaton Warrenville South. The 6-foot-4 senior forward scored a total of 41 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Traversa hit nine 3-pointers and poured in a personal-high 27 points against Hinsdale South.

Jason Gregoire, Cary-Grove: Six days after he rushed for 2 touchdowns as a quarterback in the Class 7A state championship football game, this 6-foot-4 all-area guard returned to the hardwood without missing a beat. The senior scored 33 points, including a 22-of-24 performance at the free-throw line, to lead the Trojans to a 68-61 overtime win at Carmel.

Bo Manso, Vernon Hills: A starter for the Cougars' state-qualifying golf team, the 6-foot-3 senior showed off his other shot-making skills in a 72-34 win over Round Lake. He scored 19 of his career-high 21 points in the first half, while also recording 9 rebounds and 4 steals.

Zach Singer, Aurora Christian: A key to the Eagles' 3-1 start and title of their program's fourth annual Burney Wilke Classic, the 6-foot-5 senior defended the paint while averaging 16.5 points, 8 rebounds, 1.5 blocks. A returning starter, Singer opened the season scoring 18 points, and totaled 20 points with 8 rebounds in a 73-41 win over Montini.

Xavier Williams, Fremd: The 6-foot-3 senior came up with the game-winning shot in a meeting of unbeatens at Palatine, finishing with 13 points as the Vikings edged the Pirates 43-41. Williams scored a game-high 16 the next night at Prospect, but it wasn't enough in a 59-49 loss.
