Girls basketball: Week 2 MVP

Prospect senior Taylor Will has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for her record-breaking role in a girls basketball victory over Hersey last week.

Taylor Will, Prospect: The 5-foot-11 senior stole the show with a game-high 26 points that not only helped lift the Knights past host Hersey 52-48 but also made Will the program's all-time leading scorer. Will now has 1,374 points, breaking the mark of 1,352 set in 1981.

Alexis Duehr, Antioch: The 5-foot-6 junior wasn't even in high school the last time the Sequoits beat Vernon Hills. Her team-high 15 points and 6 rebounds helped lead the way in a 56-47 win, which was Antioch's first against its division rival since January of 2011.

Kiana Jeremiah, Streamwood: The Sabres' 5-7 senior guard led her team to back-to-back wins over district rivals. In a 48-34 win over Elgin, she had 20 points, 6 steals and 4 assists and the next night, in a 59-53 triumph over Larkin, she hit for a career-high 24 points while adding 4 assists and 3 steals.

Kai Moon, Neuqua Valley: The junior guard scored 16 points against district rival Waubonsie Valley, 18 against Neuqua's other district rival, Metea Valley, and 16 again against South Elgin in the Wildcats' third victory of the week. She averaged 4.5 assists and 2.8 steals in those three wins.

Margaret Whitley, Geneva: So much for that tough transition to varsity basketball. Geneva's freshman point guard is making it look easy, leading the Vikings to two road wins over UEC River rivals last week. Whitley scored a game-high 14 points and made all 3 of her 3-point attempts in a 50-48 victory over St. Charles North, then in her first varsity start led all scorers with 20 points and drilled 3 more 3s in a 10-point win at Batavia.
