Girls basketball: Lake County roundup

Sophia Way scored a game-high 18 points and sank four of Stevenson's school-record-tying 12 3-pointers, as the host Patriots remained undefeated with a 60-46 win over Warren in North Suburban Lake Division action Tuesday night.

Ashley Richardson also made four 3s for Stevenson (8-0, 2-0). Richardson and Taylor Buford sored 13 points apiece, while Janine Fajardo tallied her 9 points on a trio of 3-pointers.

Stevenson also had 12 3-pointers in its win over Schaumburg last month.

Warren was led by freshman Jordyn Hughes' 11 points.

Antioch 49, Wauconda 39: Kelly Johnson's 9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocked shots led the way for the host Sequoits in the North Suburban Prairie showdown.

Antioch (9-2, 3-0) also received 11 points each from Carly McCameron and Amy Reiser. Ashley Reiser added 10 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Alexis Duehr chipped in 7 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.

Wauconda (3-1, 1-1) received 10 points apiece from Corrina Vaughen and Katie Rossetti, and 9 from Jackie Lung.

Lakes 55, Round Lake 35: Nicole Denman scored 13 points, and Ellie Haviland and Olivia Pawlak added 12 each, as the host Eagles won the North Suburban Prairie Division game.

Lakes (3-4, 1-1) led by only 9 points at halftime.

"We have been working to become a better defensive team and have set some pretty tough goals for ourselves," Eagles coach Pete Schneider said. "We need to play every possession as if it were determining the outcome of the game. We did not play a very good second quarter tonight and let Round Lake take some momentum into the locker room at halftime when we did not finish out the first half strong."

Lakes led by only 9 at halftime.

"We are young (5 sophomores) but getting better each day and learning to play hard all the time," Schneider said.

Denman, a senior, impressed her coach.

"Nicole has worked hard on her game," Schneider said. "She brings the toughness to the court we need and leads by example."

Pawlak and Natalie Iacopetti each had 7 rebounds. Shannon Hurlbut, Alyssa Brey and Franchesca Panganiban "brought some great energy and defense playing a lot of minutes," Schneider said.

Round Lake was led by Miya Johnson with 11 points.

North Chicago 34, Vernon Hills 29: The Warhawks rallied to hand the host Cougars their second North Suburban Prairie loss in less than a week.

Vernon Hills (7-2, 2-2) received a game-high 18 points from Kasey Firnbach.

The Cougars led 18-7 at halftime and 26-25 after three quarters, before getting outscored 9-3 in the fourth.

Prairie Ridge 46, Grayslake Central 28: Juliana Frusolone had 8 points for the host Rams in the Fox Valley Fox game.

Barrington 51, Grayslake North 47: Sidney Lovitsch scored 18 points for the Knights in their nonconference loss.
