Girls basketball: Fox Valley roundup Thursday, Dec. 4

The St. Edward girls basketball team just keeps rolling along.

The Green Wave improved to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the Metro Suburban West Thursday night with a 57-48 win at Wheaton Academy.

Cece Rapp led the way with a game-high 18 points while Kaitlyn Castoro registered 13 points in the win. Madelyn Spagnola also chipped in 12 points.

St. Edward coach Michelle Dawson said the Wave "showed heart and character" after being forced out of rhythm throughout the game.

South Elgin 56. Glenbard East 34: The Storm (5-1, 1-0) used a 12-2 start and a 26-3 halftime lead to propel itself to an Upstate Eight Valley victory and their fifth-straight win. Delaney Kelleher racked up a game-high 14 points while Mackenzie Kelleher and Bridgette Williams each poured in 13.

Harvest Christian 59, Luther North 37: Paulina Castro nailed six 3-pointers for the second-consecutive game as her 34 points alone almost outscored the Wildcats in a Northeastern Athletic win. Castro posted double figures (11, 13 and 10) in each of the first 3 quarters while Alyssa Iverson tallied 10 points for the Lions (5-2, 2-0).

Westminster Christian 45, Mooseheart 24: Maddie Versluys pushed the Warriors' win streak to 3 with a game-high 23 points to go with her 7 rebounds and 7 assists, while Emma Kovachevich scored her 9 points off 3-pointers in Westminster's first Northeastern Athletic win. Elise VanNoord chipped in 6 points and 5 rebounds, Hannah Haecker corralled 10 rebounds and Emily Lamp also hauled in 8 boards for the Warriors (3-3, 1-0).

St. Charles East 74, Larkin 57: The Royals (3-3, 0-1) never recovered in Upstate Eight River action after giving up 22 points to the Saints in each quarter of the first half. Marlee Kyles exploded for 11 of her game-high 25 points in the third quarter while Quixmia Washington added 12 points for Larkin.
