Maine West edges Niles North

Maine West 54, Niles North 52: Maine West's girls basketball team, which has won 26 conference championships in 34 years under coach Derril Kipp, got off to a 1-0 start in the Central Suburban North on Thursday night.

The Warriors (2-5) kicked off league play with a 54-52 victory over Niles North in Skokie where Kipp got a combined 21 points of the bench from junior Jordan Hart and freshman Catherine Johnson (7 points), who also provided some key defensive play.

Hart finished with a team-high 13 points whole freshman teammate Allison Pearson (10 points) also reached double figures, converting 5-of-6 free throws.

Junior guards Monica Liwag and Kayla Pociejewski each scored 7 points with a 3-pointer. Freshman forward Jessica Riedl also chipped in 7 points, making 3-of-4 free throws.
