Boys basketball / Lake County roundup

Vernon Hills 57, Wheeling 55: Robby Nardini scored 25 points, and Vernon Hills' boys basketball team wrapped up Northridge Prep's Battle of the Ridge tournament with a 57-55 win over Wheeling on Saturday night.

Nardini sank three 3-pointers. Matt Weaver added 9 points for the Cougars.

Richmond-Burton 56, Grayslake North 42: A 24-2 tear that bridged halftime saw Richmond-Burton (3-1) wipe out an 8-point deficit and go on to lead by as many as 19 points in the third-place game of the Richmond-Burton/Johnsburg Thanksgiving Tournament at Johnsburg.

All-tourney pick Sam Kaufman scored a game-high 18 points on 8-for-14 shooting. Blaine Bayer scored 9 points and 6-9 sophomore Joey St. Pierre, Jake Kaufman and Reggie Banks added 8 points apiece as the Rockets shot 64 percent from the field (16-for-25) in the second half and scored 26 points in the third quarter.

Grayslake North (2-2) took a 22-14 lead 5:16 before halftime on a layup by Joe Geary but committed half of its 18 turnovers to help R-B open up a 38-24 lead. Eli Atwater came off the bench to score a team-high 10 points and all-tourney pick Dom DiProva scored all 9 of his points in the second half.

Rockton Hononegah 81, Carmel 76 (OT): In the third-place game at Crystal Lake Central, the Corsairs were outscored 13-8 in overtime, as they suffered their second loss in a row.

Chris Duff scored 26 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Carmel (2-2). Shareif Bailey added 13 points, while Brian Julien and Julian Johnson each scored 10. The Corsairs also received 9 points from Mike Pabst.

Bailey and Zavier Barnes (6 points vs. Hononegah) represented Carmel on the all-tournament team.

North Chicago 87, Grant 56: At Grant, the Warhawks won the final game of the inaugural tournament in Fox Lake.

The host Bulldogs went 0-5 in the tourney.
