Fremd handles Mather

Fremd 52, Mather 34: The Vikings improved to 2-0 with their first on-court win of the season against the Rangers from Chicago after picking up a 2-0 forfeit win Monday against Clemente.

Xavier Williams had 12 points and Payton Kim 11 in Fremd's win over Mather (0-2).

Mather closed to 21-16 at the break but Fremd went out to a 38-24 lead after three quarters. Williams scored 8 points and Kim 6 in the third quarter. Charles Banks scored 18 for Mather.

"I think our first-quarter defense set the tone," said Fremd coach Bob Widlowski of the 12-2 lead his squad earned. "This game gives us something to build on. Our guys were champing at the bit to get the season going. They came out with a good attitude."
