Crystal Lake South dumps Streamwood

Crystal Lake South's girls basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season under new coach Mark Mucha with a 39-25 win over Streamwood Wednesday night at the Dundee-Crown Thanksgiving tournament.

Chanel Fanter had a game-high 16 points to go with 11 rebounds and 2 steals for the Gators.

South also totaled 12 steals as Streamwood coughed up 25 turnovers and didn't get its first field goal until 3:02 remained in the second quarter. The Sabres (0-1) only hit 6 shots of 31 attempts.

"We really stepped up on defense," Fanter said. "We pressured them on the ball and that's what helped us."

South's biggest lead was 12 but Streamwood cut in when it got some rhythm in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Jenejha Williams' offensive putback that led to a 3-point play made it a 29-20 game with 4:55 left but the Sabres were too turnover prone and couldn't find the offense after scoring just 5 points in the first half.

"We've got to score more than 27 points to win," Sabres' coach George Rosner said. "We'll get better. It's our first game, we'll let it go. Defensively I was pleased."
