Girls basketball: Richardson helps Stevenson win opener
Sophomore point guard Ashley Richardson scored a career-high 19 points, and Stevenson's girls basketball team opened its season with a come-from-behind, 44-32 win over Evanston at Schaumburg on Tuesday night.
"Ashley was awesome," Patriots coach Tom Dineen said.
Junior guard Janine Fajardo added 12 points for Stevenson, which outscored the Wildkits 16-0 in the fourth quarter. The Patriots trailed 32-28 after three.
"It was a great team win," Dineen said.
Antioch 59, Richmond-Burton 31: Sophomore point guard Ashley Reiser came up big with 17 points, 4 assists and 7 rebounds to lead the visiting Sequoits in their season opener.
Amy Reiser added 11 points, 4 assists, 3 steals and 6 rebounds. Carly McCameron came up huge in the paint with 10 rebounds to lead the team. Antioch sophomore Erika Gallimore came off the bench to grab 8 rebounds, which contributed to a 46-32 rebounding edge.
"We came out a bit sluggish, maybe because of first-game jitters," said coach Tim Borries, whose Sequoits led 21-9 at halftime and then outscored the Rockets 38-22 in the second half. "But behind the strong play of the Reiser twins, we were able to dominate in the second half."
