St. Edward to induct Yohn, Olinger into HOF

St. Edward High School will induct Katie Yohn and Jim Olinger into its Athletic Hall of Fame on Oct. 31 at the Greg True-Jim Biggins Hall of Fame luncheon.

Yohn is a 2009 graduate of the school and the Green Wave's all-time leading scorer in girls basketball. The Suburban Catholic Conference Player of the Year in 2008-09 and a unanimous Class 2A all-stater, she scored 1,812 career points and was named honorary co-captain of the Daily Herald's Fox Valley All-Area team.

She was also MVP of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-Star game.

Yohn went on to a stellar career at Bradley University, where she was a four-year starter. In her Bradley career she scored more than 1,300 career points, made over 200 3-pointers, grabbed more than 450 rebounds, dished out over 250 assists, blocked over 80 shots and had more than 175 steals. She holds the Bradley career record for 3-pointers.

Olinger is a 1977 St. Edward grad who was a two-time team MVP in baseball and a two-time SCC Player of the Year.

He was drafted by the New York Mets in the 20th round in 1977 and spent one year in the Mets' organization.

The Oct. 31 induction ceremony will be held at Jimmy's Charhouse in Elgin at 11:30 a.m.
