Crystal Lake South names Mucha new coach

Crystal Lake South has named Mark Mucha its new head girls basketball coach, pending District 155 board approval, athletic director Jason Bott announced in an emailed news release Friday.

Mucha replaces Kyle McCaughn, who stepped down on April 4 after 13 years as Gators' head coach to spend more time with his family.

Mucha is a Crystal Lake Central graduate who has been a teacher in the district for six years. He has been McCaughn's varsity assistant the past four years and was also the head freshman coach prior to that.

"We feel confident Mark will continue the great tradition of South basketball," Bott said in the release. "Mark's work ethic, dedication and positive attitude are qualities we truly value here at Crystal Lake South. He will bring a vision to the program that will ensure the players will be successful both on and off the court. We are excited for what the future holds for CLS girls basketball."

McCaughn was 198-178 in his 13 years at the helm. The Gators were 16-13 this past season.
