Streamwood grad Lewis wins College Dunk Contest

Streamwood graduate Marcus Lewis was already known as one of the flashiest dunkers the Fox Valley area has produced, but his reputation as a dunk artist just went national.

"Lights Out" Lewis, an Eastern Kentucky senior, won the 2014 Denny's College Dunk Contest held at Southern Methodist University in Dallas Thursday night in front of a national television audience. Lewis emerged from a field of eight participants, thanks to a performance that included a windmill slam over two ball racks.

Lewis averaged 9.8 points and 26.9 minutes per game and made 55 steals for an Eastern Kentucky team that won the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament and gave No. 2 seed Kansas a scare in the second round of the NCAA Tournament before losing 80-69.

Lewis was a Daily Herald all-area pick and an all-state honorable mention selection as a Streamwood senior in 2009-10, when he averaged 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.1 assists.
