Well-rounded Meadows players measure up

While they have proved to be one of the top girls basketball teams in the state, Rolling Meadows also has to be one of the top teams in the classroom.

The Mustangs sported a 4.59 GPA average (5.0 scale) and 4.98 weighted average for the first semester this school year.

The eight seniors on the team take a combined 60 advanced placement courses.

Not to mention, the eight seniors are playing a combined 19 sports. Allie Kemph, Sami Kay, Katie Shewmon and Elizabeth Vasilogambros each play three sports while Jackie Kemph, Jenny Vliet and Ashley Montanez are two-sport athletes.

"I think it speaks well to Rolling Meadows as a school that places big value on education and having well-rounded athletes who participate in a lot of sports," said Meadows assistant coach Nick Nichols. "We're developing the player as a whole as opposed to a person as a player."
