Wetsminster Christian falls in sectional semifinal

Westminster Christian was a March Madness casualty in a 44-43 loss to Chicagoland Jewish in a Class 1A Serena sectional semifinal Tuesday.

Trailing by 10 points, the Warriors rallied to take a 4-point lead late in the fourth quarter.

However, the Tigers sank a 3-pointer to draw within a point and the Warriors left the door open by missing 2 ensuing free throws.

Chicagoland Jewish took full advantage of that opportunity by sinking a 12-foot jump shot at the buzzer to advance.

"I'm really disappointed in the outcome because we did about everything we could do to win the game," Westminster Christian coach Bruce Firchau said. "Opportunities only present themselves so many times, so to not take advantage of that hurts. It would have been a great win for us."

Sophomore Robert Kleczynski was among three players to lead the Warriors (17-13) with 12 points apiece.
