Barrington handles Buffalo Grove

It was seemingly over at halftime, as Barrington was firmly in control at 41-19 against Buffalo Grove.

That's the same Bison team that had beaten the Broncos earlier in the year.

Barrington (12-17) has officially lived for another day. Chris Lester led a balanced Barrington attack with 11 points as the Broncos stopped BG 59-43 in the opening round of the Libertyville regional.

"We allowed 9 points from the field in that first half,'' said Barrington coach Bryan Tucker. "I'm really proud of our defense. We really got into the passing lanes."

Tucker and Co. weren't taking anything for granted, even leading by 22 points at halftime. Buffalo Grove senior Andrew Apel began finding his shot in the second half and ended up leading all scorers with 15 points.

Buffalo Grove (10-17) outscore Barrington in the second half but it wasn't enough to really cut in to the Broncos' margin.

On a driving layup from Barrington center Chad Schechtman, the Barrington lead was safe at 59-40 in the waning seconds.

The next assignment for Barrington is clearly more difficult. Tucker and his staff have to get ready for Evan Boudreaux and the Lake Forest Scouts come 6 p.m. Tuesday.

"I still want to have some joy tonight,'' Tucker said. "Lake Forest is awfully tough. We've seen them play before. But this a good problem to have. That's means we are still playing."
