Time for Lake County's fun seasonal roundball ritual

Who's all through with winter? Me, too.

Not yet, though.

Our all-area boys and girls basketball teams will run in Friday's Sports Extra. In the meantime, it's time for the annual installment of all-this and all-that.

Only teams in the Daily Herald's Lake County-circulation area are eligible. So you won't see Zion-Benton's Milik Yarbrough or Lake Forest's Evan Boudreaux (All-Senior), North Chicago's Tineesha Coleman (All-Sophomore), Lake Forest's Scott Dent (All-Verb), Zion-Benton's pint-size Marquitta Easley (All-Small), Lake Forest's Cal Miller (All-Defense) or North Chicago's JaVairius Amos-Mays (All-Cool Name).

All set?

• All-Senior (Girls): Grayslake Central C Morgan Dahlstrom, Grayslake North G Kendall Detweiler, Antioch G Paige Gallimore, Vernon Hills F Sydney Smith, Vernon Hills F Lauren Webb

Skinny: Lake County hasn't seen this collection of scorers in, like, forever. Gallimore averaged a county-best 23 ppg with a 45-point effort vs. Fenwick.

• All-Senior (Boys): Carmel C Jack George, Warren G Eric Gillespie, Libertyville G Jack Lipp, Mundelein G Derek Parola, Round Lake G Karnell Wright

• Skinny: Basketball might be Parola's third-best sport behind baseball and golf. Yet he had a 39-point game and a 38-point effort in which he drained a school-record 12 3-pointers.

• All-Junior (Girls): Stevenson G Taylor Buford, Mundelein G Natalie Busscher, Mundelein G Maggie Mahar, Carmel C Emma Rappe, Stevenson G Sophia Way

Skinny: Busscher and Mahar helped make Mundelein a 20-win again. It had been too long.

• All-Junior (Boys): Libertyville C Joe Borcia, Stevenson G Jalen Brunson, Stevenson G Connor Cashaw, Vernon Hills G Robby Nardini, Lake Zurich G Mike Travlos

Skinny: Tremendous junior class. Last week Nardini became Cougars' all-time single-season scoring leader.

• All-Sophomore (Girls): Grant G Alexis Duehr, Stevenson G Janine Fajardo, Warren G Kylie Nedelka, Lake Zurich G Abby Pirron, Grant G Jasmine Sangster

Skinny: Sangster made huge strides in her second varsity season. She can be a game-changer.

• All-Sophomore (Boys): Carmel G Chris Duff, Grayslake North F Aidan Einloth, Antioch G Kyle Gofron, Libertyville F Ben Kimpler, Wauconda G Kevin Malisheski

Skinny: Breakout season for Duff, who's also been called in our paper Christopher Duff, Christopher Duff Jr. and C.J. (which his teammates call him).

• All-Freshman (Girls): Libertyville F Claire Keefe, Grayslake North G Sidney Lovitsch, Antioch G Amy Reiser, Antioch PG Ashley Reiser, Stevenson PG Ashley Richardson

Skinny: Five potential all-area players before they're done.

• All-Small (Girls): Carmel G Nicole Bitter (5-4), Lakes G Alyssa Brey (5-1), Lakes G Kelsey Kohler (5-3), Wauconda G Lauren Nee (5-1½), Antioch PG Ashley Reiser (5-4)

Skinny: Brey opened the season with double-digit boards vs. Johnsburg.

• All-Small (Boys): Lakes G Jake Balliu (5-7), Mundelein G Nick Filippo (5-5), Warren G Eric Gillespie (5-9), Antioch G A.J. Marsiglio (5-7), Grayslake Central G Malcolm Reed (5-7)

Skinny: Love watching Filippo. Always hustling, constantly winning rebounds from much taller guys. Track-star Balliu is a blur.

• All-Cool Name (Girls): Warren G Atiana Bey-Wrey, Antioch F Sage Keyes, Round Lake G Raven Nicoline, Lakes F Isabella Quaranta, Stevenson G Sophia Way

Skinny: Do they call Quaranta, "I.Q."?

• All-Cool Name (Boys): Antioch G Hamza Abdellatif, Carmel G Shareif Belser-Bailey, Grayslake North F Dom DiProva, Warren F Jovan Jokic, Vernon Hills G Bo Manso

Skinny: If my name were Bob, I would drop the second "b."

• All-Rebounding (Girls): Grayslake Central C Morgan Dahlstrom, Grant F Kaylie Kanzler, Antioch C Carly McCameron, Vernon Hills F Sydney Smith, Grayslake North F Brittney Thibeaux

Skinny: There wasn't a better rebounder in Lake County the last two years than Dahlstrom, who averaged 12 boards per game this winter.

• All-Rebounding (Boys): Stevenson G Connor Cashaw, Mundelein F J.T. Michalski, Lakes F Ethan Sage, Wauconda F Ricky Sidlowski, Warren F Greg Swane

Skinny: Cashaw won't need to rebound the basketball when he's playing D-I, but it's in his arsenal.

• All-Verb: Grant G Mike Burns, Grant F Jessica Cross, Grayslake North C Nate Dodge, Libertyville G Rosie Lynch, Mundelein G Lauren Rouse

Skinny: Truth be told, the verb is pronounced "rouz." The last name of the Olivet Nazarene-bound basketball player is pronounced with an "s" sound at the end.

• All-Defense (Girls): Grayslake Central C Morgan Dahlstrom, Grayslake North G Kendall Detweiler, Antioch G Alexis Duehr, Carmel G Kathleen Felicelli, Carmel F Leah Lach

Skinny: I'm bringing Carmel G Paige Gauthier off the bench. Nice weapon.

• All-Defense (Boys): Wauconda C Ben Carlson, Stevenson G Matt Johnson, Mundelein F J.T. Michalski, Stevenson F Matt Morrissey, Vernon Hills C Lem Turner

Skinny: The master of taking charges, Michalski gets hit more than Cubs relievers. Carlson and Turner are shot-block specialists.

All-Facial Team: Grant F Devan Bald, Wauconda F Amber Head, Wauconda G Dion Head, Grant F Dylan Lipp, Libertyville G Jack Lipp

Skinny: Facial hair not required for this team.

• All-Sharpshooter (Girls): Mundelein G Maggie Mahar, Wauconda G Lauren Nee, Warren G Kristen O'Brien, Vernon Hills F Sydney Smith, Stevenson G Sophia Way

Skinny: Smith's improved ability to score inside complemented her three-point shot.

• All-Sharpshooter (Boys): Stevenson G Jalen Brunson, G Vernon Hills G Robby Nardini, Mundelein G Derek Parola, Lake Zurich G Mike Travlos, Round Lake F Karnel Wright

Skinny: Both Nardini and Wright scored 20 points in one quarter this season. Brunson dropped 57 points on Lake Forest in a double-OT win.

• All-Bouncer: Grayslake North F Jesse Davis, Stevenson F Nick Dillon, Lakes G TJ Edwards, Stevenson F Pat O'Connell, Lake Zurich F Zach Wallace

Skinny: Like the commercial says: "Tackle? Or touch?" Guess which these guys would choose.

OK, all done.
