Carmel rolls past Elmwood Park
Carmel Catholic's girls basketball team will get a chance to avenge a home loss to conference rival St. Viator on Friday night.
Carmel, the No. 3 seed in the Class 3A Ridgewood sectional complex, opened the state tournament Wednesday night by rolling past No. 14 Elmwood Park 65-18 in a regional semifinal at St. Viator.
Senior Kathleen Felicelli and junior Emma Rappe each had 11 points, and senior Nicole Bitter added 9 (one 3-pointer) for Carmel (21-8), which will face No. 6 St. Viator at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship.
When the two teams met in East Suburban Catholic Conference play earlier this month, St. Viator pulled out 54-51 win.
"We shared the ball well on offense (against Elmwood Park) and did a nice job taking what they gave us," said Carmel coach Kelly Perz. "And I felt our intensity on defense was good, too."
Grayslake Central 57, Chicago Northside 41: At North Chicago, center Morgan Dahlstrom poured in a game-best 25 points, as the fifth-seeded Rams ousted the No.-11 seed to earn a berth in Friday's 7 p.m. regional final against the host Warhawks.
Grayslake Central (19-10) also received a season-high-tying 10 points from Maddy Arnold.
The Rams led 18-10 after one quarter, 30-20 at halftime and 40-24 after three.
