Macahon's 27 points pace Palatine

Led by Chris Macahon's game-high 27 points, Palatine's boys basketball team posted a 79-67 nonconference triumph over Vernon Hills (14-10) on Saturday.

Macahon had two 3-pointers while teammate Dondre Watson (13 points) converted three for the Pirates (12-13).

Kyle Leber (8 points) and Matt Ulrich (8 points) each had two from long range while Justin Chaney (7 points) and Nolan Gavin (6) had one apiece.

Libertyville 72, Hersey 52: Joe Borcia (17 points), Matt Reed (14) and Johnny Vernasco (13) led Libertyville (13-10) in the nonconference win over Hersey.

Alex Mueller (15 points) and Josh Mailloux (9) paced the Huskies (9-14), who received a pair of 3-pointers from Payton Haas and one from Mueller.

Rolling Meadows 64, Grant 58: Host Rolling Meadows (11-12) was led by Pat Kramp (17 points) and John Lothery (15), who each hit five 3-point baskets in the nonconference game. Teammate Matt Dolan added 14. Matt Malmberg scored a game-high 20 points, sinking six 3-pointers for Grant, also 11-2.

Glenbrook South 64, Elk Grove 61: The visiting Grenadiers fell to 12-10 after the nonconference loss in Glenview.

Leyden 69, Willowbrook 53: Leyden picked up the win in the West Suburban Gold match played in Villa Park.
