S. Elgin, Huntley, Burlington C. draw top seeds

There were few surprises Thursday when the IHSA released the seeds for the upcoming Class 3A and Class 4A girls basketball postseason.

In Class 4A, all Fox Valley area teams feed into the Judson University supersectional, which will be hosted by Westminster Christian. Sectional winners from Addison Trail and Crystal Lake South will meet in that Elite Eight game.

The difference is, the 21-team Addison Trail sectional is a sectional complex field while the CL South sectional is set up with preassigned regionals based on the IHSA’s geographical system.

Regional hosts in the CL South sectional include Jacobs, Hononegah, Cary-Grove and Rockford Jefferson.

South Elgin got the top seed at the Jacobs regional with Streamwood No. 2. If seeds hold, it would be the third straight year the Storm and Sabres have met for a regional title. Dundee-Crown is the No. 3 seed, Larkin No. 4, Jacobs No. 5 and Elgin No. 6.

Prairie Ridge is the top seed at the Cary-Grove regional with CL South No. 2, the host Trojans No. 3, CL Central No. 5, McHenry No. 5 and Grant No. 6.

Huntley, which finished fourth at the Class 4A state tournament last year, is the top seed at the Jefferson regional. DeKalb is No. 2, Belvidere North No. 3, Rockford East No. 4 and Jefferson No. 5.

Hononegah is the No. 1 seed at its regional with Rockford Auburn No. 2.

Wheaton Warrenville South was voted the top seed in the Addison Trail sectional. Downers Grove North, Batavia and Wheaton North are next. Bartlett is the No. 8 seed, with Geneva No. 5, St. Charles North No. 9 and St. Charles East No. 11.

Batavia, Wheaton North, York and Glenbard East are the regional hosts within the Addison Trail sectional complex.

In Class 3A, Burlington Central and St. Edward are the top two seeds in the Aurora Central Catholic regional, followed by Rosary, ACC, Hampshire and IMSA. The ACC regional winner advances to the Belvidere sectional along with regional winners from Freeport, Plano and Richmond. Rockford Lutheran is the top seed at Freeport, Sycamore is No. 1 at Plano and Marian Central is the top seed at Richmond.

The sectional winner at Belvidere will play the Ridgewood sectional champ in the Hoffman Estates supersectional. Vernon Hills, last year’s Class 3A state runner-up that beat Burlington Central in the supersectional, is the top seed in the Ridgewood sectional complex with Antioch No. 2, Carmel No. 3 and North Chicago No. 4.

Pairings will be released by the IHSA on Friday. The Class 3A and Class 4A regionals begin Feb. 17.
