Collins (33 points) leads Maine West win

Brittany Collins was a force for Maine West as the Warriors claimed a 57-47 victory over visiting Lake Zurich on Wednesday in nonconference girls basketball play.

Collins, a senior forward, pumped in a game-high 33 points, making 14 field goals and 5-for-8 at the foul line.

Collins’ 33 points mark the fifth time the St. Xavier recruit has scored more than 30 points this season, including a career-high 38 against Niles North.

Senior guard Erin Ross contributed 9 points and senior center Julia Huinker had 6 for the Warriors (15-8), who held the Bears to 7 points in the second quarter on the way to grabbing a 29-19 halftime lead.

Sophomores Frankie Nasca and Abby Pirron had 10 points apiece to pace Lake Zurich.

Collins also wracked up 13 rebounds, while Huinker contributed 5 assists and 4 rebounds for the Warriors.
