Harris, Hersey seniors prevail

Hersey senior Morgan Harris converted four 3-pointers and all four of her free throws for a game-high 16 points as the Huskies topped visiting Buffalo Grove 48-37 in Mid-Suburban East girls basketball on Tuesday.

Also reaching double figures for the Hersey (22-3, 6-3) was junior Annie Korff with 13 points and 13 rebounds (while wearing jersey No. 13).

Senior Renee Poulos chipped in 7 points on senior night, as she, Harris, Sarah Thompson and Alysia Zaucha were honored at the Ken Carter Gymnasium in Arlington Heights.

“We have such a great group of seniors,” said Hersey coach Mary Fendley. “Besides their great leadership, they really welcomed the freshmen, sophomores and juniors who are playing varsity.

“They are sincerely happy when they do well. They’re the reason we have such good chemistry on our team.”

Buffalo Grove (9-16, 2-7) was led by Maddie Welter’s 13 points, which included three 3-pointers.

Elk Grove 42, Wheeling 38: Senior Melissa Solorio scored a game-high 22 points, converting 9-of-11 free throws, as the host Grenadiers improved to 7-17 and 2-7 in the MSL East.

“Melissa did a nice job overall,” said Elk Grove coach Kathie Swanson, whose team visits Zion-Benton at 6 p.m. today. “Especially in the last two quarters.”

Senior teammate Taylor Brown scored 12 points, going 12-of-14 at the free throw line.

Wheeling (11-14, 2-7) was led by juniors Hailey Dammeier (12 points) and Hannah Dobrowski (9).

Conant 39, Schaumburg 28: Sarah Mazurek scored 15 points with 2 rebounds for host Conant (16-9, 6-3) in the MSL West.

Alissa Wachal and Jorie Wachal each had 5 points while Nireet Dhillon, DeeDee Durr (4 rebounds, 4 steals) and Haley Anderson (3 assists, 3 rebounds scored 4 points apiece for the winners.

Schaumburg (6-17, 2-7) was led by Tatiana Doroskin (8 points) and Mallory Gerber (7).

Palatine 37, Hoffman Estates 34: Palatine (9-16, 2-7) won for the second time in three MSL West games as Morgan Radtke (14) and Sami Heuertz (10) led the way on offense.

Freshman Monraia Wilson paced Hoffman (4-19, 1-8) with 14 points.
