Buford, Way pace Stevenson victory

Taylor Buford scored 16 points, Sophia Way added 15 and Stevenson’s girls basketball team netted a 65-47 nonconference win over host Grayslake Central Monday night.

Stevenson (19-7) bolted to a 12-3 lead after one quarter and never looked back. The Patriots were up 27-17 at halftime and 44-34 after three.

Ashley Richardson and Janine Fajardo chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Stevenson, which won its fourth in a row and 11th and 13 games. Jessica Burke scored 9 points on three 3-pointers.

“It was a really good team effort,” said Tom Dineen, whose Patriots moved within one victory of their fifth 20-win season in his five years as coach. “The girls are playing well at this time of the year.”

Grayslake Central’s Morgan Dahlstrom led all scorers with 18 points. Carson Sparkman had 8 points for the Rams (16-8), who host Grayslake North in a Fox Valley Fox showdown Wednesday night.
