Vernon Hills picks up win No. 20

Sydney Smith had 23 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 assists, and Vernon Hills’ girls basketball team hit the 20-win mark for the third year in a row with a 55-29 victory over host Round Lake on Friday night.

Lauren Webb added 10 points and 6 rebounds for the Cougars (20-5, 9-2), who remained tied atop the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division standings with Antioch.

Vernon Hills also received 6 points apiece from Katherine Koczwara and Haley Lieberman (4 rebounds). Smith sank three 3-pointers and scored 12 points in the opening quarter in staking the visitors to a 16-9 lead. Lieberman hit a pair of 3s.

Round Lake (4-20, 0-11) was led by Justice Clark’s 13 points. Destiny Brown added 10 for the Panthers.

Antioch 60, Grant 46: Paige Gallimore’s 24 points, 6 steals, 3 assists and 2 blocked shots led the way for the visiting Sequoits in the North Suburban Prairie contest.

Ashley Reiser chipped in 8 points, 4 assists and 4 steals for Antioch (19-6, 9-2), which remains tied for first place with Vernon Hills in the division. Carly McCameron led the Sequoits on the boards with 6 rebounds, while Alexis Duehr and Amy Reiser each grabbed 5. Kelly Johnson and Shannon Zogran had 7 and 6 points, respectively.

Jordynn Hundley’s 14 points led Grant (9-13, 5-5), which saw its three-game winning streak snapped.

Wauconda 57, Lakes 46: The Bulldogs reached double-digit wins, as Lauren Nee scored 14 points and Katie Rossetti posted a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Wauconda (10-9, 5-5 North Suburban Prairie) also got 8 points and 5 rebounds from Anna Wisniewski and 6 points and 7 boards from Amber Head.

Ellie Haviland’s 13 points paced Lakes (4-20, 2-9), which also received 10 points from Sam Ney and 7 from Kelsey Kohler.

Warren 40, Libertyville 21: Kristen O’Brien scored a game-high 14 points, as the Blue Devils captured the North Suburban Lake contest for their second win in a row.

Sammi Jo Nixon added 8 points for Warren (7-17, 4-7).

Libertyville, which had four players score 4 points, fell to 8-15 and 6-5 in the NSC Lake.
