Vernon Hills snaps streak, tops Antioch

Matt Weaver’s 19 points led five players in double figures, and Vernon Hills’ boys basketball team got back on the winning track Wednesday night.

The Cougars defeated visiting Antioch 66-55 for their first win since Dec. 27, snapping a season-worst five-game losing streak.

Vernon Hills improved to 11-8 and 4-4 in the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division. The Cougars also got 14 points from Robby Nardini, 12 from Sam Rattner, 11 from Bo Manso and 10 from Cory Levin.

Antioch (4-17, 0-7) was led by Kyle Gofron’s 16 points. A.J. Marsiglio and Jason Mrkonich added 13 and 10, respectively, for the Sequoits.

Grayslake Central 50, Woodstock 47: Malcolm Reed played hero for the visiting Rams on Wednesday night, banking in a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Rams in the Fox Valley Fox Division game.

Reed’s 3, after a pass from Charlie Anderson, hiked Grayslake Central’s record to 9-7 and 5-0 in the division. It was the Rams’ fourth win in a row.
