Way, Stevenson bounce Warren

Sophia Way scored 21 points, including five 3-pointers, and Stevenson’s girls basketball team recovered from a slow start to defeat visiting Warren 62-50 in North Suburban Lake Division action Thursday night.

Stevenson (16-7, 7-1) missed its first 6 shots from the floor and trailed 10-9 after one quarter. But the Patriots sank 8 of their next 12 field-goal attempts — seven coming from three-point range — and outscored the Blue Devils 24-2 in the second.

Stevenson was up 53-33 after three.

Way hit four 3s and scored 13 points in the second quarter. Taylor Buford netted 11 of her 13 points in the third. Ashley Richardson, who hit a pair of 3-pointers, finished with 9 points, while Janine Fajardo had 7 for the Patriots.

Warren (5-17, 2-7) was led by Kristen O’Brien, who scored a game-high 22 points, including six 3s. Sammi Jo Nixon chipped in 10 points for the Blue Devils.

Libertyville 36, Lake Zurich 25: Becky Deichl poured in a game-high 16 points, as the host Wildcats picked up the North Suburban Lake win.

Mary Wilterdink (two 3-pointers) and Sydney Mudd (one 3) added 6 points apiece for Libertyville (8-12, 6-3), which captured its second victory in a row.

“It’s nice to get this win on our home floor,” Wildcats coach Greg Pedersen said. “We hope to build on this.”

Lake Zurich fell to 6-14 and 2-7 in the NSC Lake.
