Girls basketball/Fox Valley roundup

Batavia 70, Larkin 40: Batavia was able to remain perfect on the season in the Upstate Eight Conference River Division at the expense of Larkin, which fell for the fourth time in its last five games. Playing at home for the first time in almost two weeks, the Royals (7-13, 2-6) were unable to generate their offense early and late, netting just 13 points in the first and fourth quarters combined. Senior Alyssa McGhee led the Royals with 13 points, including 3 3-pointers, all coming in the third quarter. Victoria Patterson added 11 points for the Royals, while Marlee Kyles put in 10.

Geneva 68, Elgin 39: While not the result that was hoped for by Elgin, there was improvement by the Maroons (6-13, 1-4), who only scored 19 points combined the last two times when traveling to Geneva. “That’s the best we’ve played there, we just have to keep improving every game,” Maroons coach Dr. Nick Bumbales said. Junior Abby Pierre-Louis was able to take charge on offense, hitting 6 shots and leading all scorers with 15 points, but it was not enough to counter a balanced Vikings attack, which saw 12 different players score. Seniors Maggie Powers and Melanie Berg along with sophomore Alisha Panthier each added 6 points for the Maroons.
