Konchar scores 30 as West Chicago takes third place

John Konchar poured in 30 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 7 assists to lift West Chicago to a 92-73 victory over Marmion in the third-place game of DeKalb’s 86th annual Chuck Dayton Basketball Tournament. Mike Bibbs added 29 points and Mitch Henke 14 for the Wildcats (9-6). Jordan Glasgow and Michael Murphy combined for seven 3-pointers for Marmion (4-8) while scoring 23 and 14 points, respectively. Konchar and Marmion forward Jake Esp were named to the all-tournament team.

At Elgin:Glenbard North (8-2) must settle for a chance at third place after Philips beat the Panthers 68-66. Jeremiah Fleming scored 23 points followed by Chip Flanigan with 15 and Kendall Holbert#146;s 14 for Glenbard North, which will play Elgin for third place at 6:45 p.m. Saturday.At York: Metea Valley (7-4) advanced in the championship bracket with a 55-46 victory over Providence. Marquell Oliver scored a game-high 24 points with Nick Dodson adding 15. The Mustangs face Lyons Twp. in a Jack Tosh Classic quarterfinal at 3:30 p.m.Joining Metea in a championship quarterfinal is host York, a 65-45 winner over Sandburg. Charlie Rose scored 14 points and Frank Toohey 13 for the Dukes, who will play St. Ignatius at 5 p.m.Girls basketballAt Wheaton North:Chrissy Baird and Kelly Thornton each scored 20 points to lead the host Falcons past Glenbrook South, 63-59 at Wheaton North#146;s Bill Neibch Tournament. Glenbard South defeated West Aurora 58-47 behind the one-two punch of Steffy Bazigos#146; 18 points and Tomei Ball#146;s 17. The Raiders will play Wheaton North in the fifth-place game at 4:30 p.m. today.Hinsdale Central got double-figure scoring from Gabrielle Rush, Jenna Broz and Emily Wasz to beat Downers Grove North 55-42 in a semifinal. Downers North was led by Sarah Costello#146;s 16 points.Molly Krawczykowski led Willowbrook with 12 points in the Warriors#146; 47-45 win over Elk Grove at Wheaton North. Melissa Rader scored 8 points with 6 assists. The Warriors meet St. Charles East at 3 p.m. today in the consolation championship.Glenbard North won a 34-31 squeaker over Elgin at Wheaton North. The Panthers got 9 points and 5 rebounds from Laila Pickens.At Oswego East:York (6-8) beat Metea Valley 42-38 to advance to Saturday#146;s Oswego East tournament championship.
