Balanced Aurora Central gets 1st win

Five Aurora Central Catholic players scored in double figures and the Chargers picked up their first win of the year Thursday, beating Milwaukee North 81-77 at the East Aurora Holiday Tournament.

Evan Schuetz led the Chargers (1-7) with 18 points. Brandon Babler scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.

Sean Harreld scored 14 points and Andy Czerak and Matt Schaefer both added 11 points.

Aurora Christian 61, Genoa-Kingston 44: Twelfth-seeded Aurora Christian defeated No. 5 Genoa-Kingston at the Plano Christmas Classic.

Zach Singer led the Eagles with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Johnathan Harrell had 15 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists.

R.D. Lutze had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Aurora Christian outrebounded Genoa 51-23.

The Eagles play Newark at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the quarterfinals. It is a rematch of Newark’s 60-57 victory earlier this month.

Newark 57, Kaneland 50: The Knights, seeded fourth at the Plano Christmas Classic, were upset Thursday morning by Newark (9-3). The Knights (4-3) play Genoa at 2 p.m. Friday.
