Kaneland finishes 2-2 at Ottawa

Kaneland split a pair of games Monday at the Ottaway Holiday Tournament, opening with a 45-38 loss to Geneseo and bouncing back with a 59-47 win over Rockford East.

Kaneland overcame a 14-point deficit in the second quarter against Rockford East to earn the split Monday and also even its record in the tournament at 2-2 and its overall record at 6-6.

Ally VanBogaert scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds while Brittany Kemp and Kelly Wallner both added 11 points.

VanBogaert also led Kaneland earlier in the day against Geneseo with 11 points. The teams were tied at 34 but the Knights scored just 4 points in the fourth quarter.

Aurora Central Catholic 59, Downers Grove South 50: The Chargers used a 22-point third quarter to take a commanding 15-point lead into the fourth quarter, then withstood a furious comeback by the Mustangs to win their first game at the Oswego East tournament Monday afternoon.

The Chargers (7-3) were led by junior Natalie Droeske with 13 points. Nine different Chargers scored.

West Aurora 53, Waubonsie Valley 38: The Blackhawks advanced to the quarterfinals at the Wheaton North Falcon Classic with the win Monday.

West Aurora led 41-38 with three minutes left before Alexis Wiggins hit a 3-pointer to start a 12-0 run to end the game.

The No. 4 seeded Blackhawks improved to 10-1 and will play No. 5 seed Lyons (7-3) at 6 p.m. Thursday.
