Smith, Vernon Hills rolll

Sydney Smith’s 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists led Vernon Hills’ girls basketball team to a 73-23 win over visiting Round Lake on Thursday night.

Kasey Firnbach also had a double-double, totaling a season-high 15 points and 10 rebounds, as the Cougars snapped a two-game losing streak, while improving to 9-3 and 3-2 in the North Suburban Prairie Division.

Vernon Hills got 11 points from Mia Polisky and 8 from Haley Lieberman. The Cougars led 14-8 after one quarter and 35-16 at halftime.

Nine players scored for Round Lake (1-13, 0-6), led by Mike Crisantos’ 5 points, which included a 3-pointer.
