Nee helps Wauconda win twice

Lauren Nee led Wauconda’s girls basketball team to a pair of wins in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic at Woodstock on Saturday.

Nee’s 17 points, including three 3-pointers, and 7 steals helped Wauconda defeat Rockford Jefferson 63-27 in the Bulldogs’ second game of the day. Jessie Wood and Dani Sturm (6 rebounds) added 8 points apiece, while Anna Wisniewski contributed 7.

Wauconda (4-4, 2-1 tourney) started the day by edging Woodstock 54-51 in the morning, as Nee scored a game-high 15 points. The senior guard had three 3s, 2 steals and 2 rebounds, and the 5-footer also blocked a shot.

Wood chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds.

Trinity 60, Vernon Hills 31: At Whitney Young, the Cougars fell behind 22-6 after one quarter and never recovered.

After scoring a career-high 14 points against Grayslake Central on Friday, Kasey Firnbach scored 14 points again while also grabbing 11 rebounds to lead Vernon Hills (8-2). The Cougars played without Lauren Webb, who reinjured her foot against Grayslake Central.

Sydney Smith addd 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Crystal Lake South 77, Lakes 43: At Richmond-Burton, the Eagles’ loss gave them a 1-1 record for the day in the Northern Illinois Hoiliday Classic.

Kelsey Kohler, Olivia Pawlak and Natalie Iacopetti each had 9 points for Lakes.

Crystal Lake South’s Chanel Fanter poured in 24 points.

Lakes is 3-9 and 2-1 in the tournament.

“We are coming together and learning to play at the varsity level,” Eagles coach Pete Schneider said. “It is great to see the kids get some wins. This is a great bunch of hard-working kids and they are starting to show themselves what they can do on the court as a team.”

Lakes 55, Woodstock North 33: At Richmond-Burton, Ellie Haviland and Kelsey Kohler each had 11 points, while Olivia Pawlak had 9 points and 9 rebounds for the Eagles, whose win was their third in a row and second in as many games in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic.
