Dunning, Grant sink Round Lake

Grant’s boys basketball team hadn’t played a game in December until Wednesday night.

The 10-day layoff didn’t affect Steve Dunning, apparently.

Matt Malmburg added 10 points for the Bulldogs in their North Suburban Prairie Division opener. Round Lake (1-6, 0-2) led 12-8 after one quarter and was up 32-27 at halftime.

But Grant (4-1, 1-0) outscored the Panthers 20-10 in the third quarter to take a 47-42 lead into the fourth.

Round Lake got 8 points apiece from Robert Pisarski and Alex Green. Devan Bald had 8 points for Grant.

Vernon Hills 46, Lakes 42: Robby Nardini carried the host Cougars in the North Suburban Prairie contest, scoring 27 points to account for more than half of his team’s offense. He knocked down two 3-pointers and went 11 of 15 from the foul line.

Vernon Hills (6-1, 2-0) was up 13-7 after one quarter, 25-20 at halftime and 37-28 after three.

Lakes (1-6, 0-1) received 12 points from Ethan Sage and 10 from David Milostan, who hit two 3-pointers.

Lake Forest 65, Lake Zurich 62: Evan Boudreaux scored 28 points, hitting 13 of 14 free throws, as the visiting Scouts pulled out the North Suburban Lake game.
