Conant stays hot, tops Viator

Conant’s girls basketball team won for the fourth time in five games as the Cougars posted a 53-35 nonconference win over visiting St. Viator on Saturday afternoon in Hoffman Estates.

Sarah Mazurek (9 points, 5 assists, 2 rebounds), Jorie Wachal (8 points, 2 rebounds), Katie Lomas (7 points, 2 rebounds), Alissa Wachal (6 points, 4 rebounds), DeeDee Durr (6 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) and Nireet Dhillon (5 points, 3 rebounds) were top contributors for the Cougars, who are 4-4.

Maddie McAteer led St. Viator (5-2) with 8 points while Kelsey Trimble, Maggie Leazer and Molly Murphy each had 6.

The Lions were playing their first game without all-area guard Erin Fabbri, who suffered a broken ankle in Thursday’s win over Gordon Tech. The senior is expected to be in a cast for three to four weeks, then will have a walking boot.

Wheeling 51, Jacobs 37: Wheeling went above .500 for the first this season with its third straight win as junior guard Deanna Kuzmanic led the way with a game-high 19 points, including four 3-pointers.

Classmates Hailey Dammeier (9 points), Hannah Dobrowski (8 points, all at the free throw line) and Lani Greenberg (7 points) were the other top scorers for the visiting Wildcats.

Buffalo Grove 67, Lake Forest 43; Buffalo Grove rebounded from Friday’s loss at Wheeling with the nonconference game. The Bison (4-4) are back at .500 for the fourth time this season.

Downers Grove South 47, Leyden 41: Alondra Chavarria scored 28 points with 9 rebounds and 3 steals for the visiting Eagles. Teammate Liz McCluskey added 7 points and 7 rebounds.
