Dahlstrom leads another Grayslake Central win

Grayslake Central’s Morgan Dalhstrom has started the holiday season the right way.

The 6-foot-1 senior center scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed 17 rebounds Saturday to lead the Rams to a 58-39 win over Libertyville in the Buffalo Grove tournament.

In helping the Grayslake Central start the season with three straight wins, Dahlstrom has averaged 25.7 points.

She credited her teammates after Saturday’s victory.

“They did a great job getting the ball to me in the lower post, which allowed me to shoot easy layups,” said Dahlstrom, who will be heading to Southern Indiana next year.

“Megan just keeps getting better,” Grayslake Central coach Steve Ikenn said of his four-year varsity player.

Grayslake Central led 15-13 after one quarter and was up 32-26 at halftime. The Rams then dominated the second half, outscoring the Wildcats 14-5 in the third and 12-8 in the fourth.

“We started out slow, but then we made some adjustments in the second half,” Ikenn said.

Point guard Carson Sparkman added 15 points for the Rams, who started the second half with 10 unanswered points to extend their advantage to 42-26.

Becky Deichl lead Libertyville (0-2) with 12 points. The Wildcats received 6 points apiece from Mary Wilterdink, Rosie Lynch and freshman Claire Keefe.

“We have a young team,” Wildcats coach Greg Pedersen said. “We’ll get better over the year.”
