Dahlstrom (27 points) leads Grayslake Central

Morgan Dahlstrom scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, as Grayslake Central’s girls basketball team opened the Buffalo Grove Thanksgiving tournament with a 53-44 win over Westinghouse on Thursday night.

Maddy Miller added 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Rams (2-0), who play Libertyville at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Buffalo Grove.

Barrington 65, Libertyville 41: At Buffalo Grove, 5-foot-11 freshman Claire Keefe scored 13 points to lead the Wildcats in their season opener.

“She’s a nice post, and is doing some really good things with the basketball,” Libertyville coach Greg Pedersen said.

Barrington led Libertyville 35-24 at halftime.

Pedersen’s starting lineup featured Keefe, seniors Sydney Mudd and Rosie Lynch and junior veterans Becky Deichl and Mary Wilterdink. The Wildcats’ 14-player roster includes seven seniors.

“We’re a team in development,” Pedersen said. “For the seniors, it’s their time to make it or break it. They’re going to have their chance to succeed, and they’re going to have to step up and make it their season.”

Pedersen said Keefe’s twin sister, Kelly, who’s also 5-11, will miss the season with a back injury.

“Similar players,” Pedersen said. “It would be nice to have the two of them, but Kelly will come back.”
