Outlook: The Sequoits have developed into a consistent winner under coach Tim Borries, winning 17 games last season for the second time in three years, after posting 15 victories in 2011-12. Gone is the coach's kid, sharpshooting Megan Borries, who played four varsity seasons, earning all-area honors as a senior. The Sequoits will look to returning all-conference senior guard Paige Gallimore, who had a breakout season as a junior in her second season on varsity. “If you give me one girl to start a basketball team with in Lake County, I'll take Paige every time,” Tim Borries said. “She can score inside, outside, from the three-point line, she has a nice 12-foot shot. She made herself into a complete ballplayer over the last three years. It's nice to work with her. She's taken the leadership to heart, and she wants to win. You can see it at practice. I just hope everybody follows her. If so, we'll have a very successful season.” Alex Fracek, one of the best rebounders in the conference last winter, did not come out for her senior season, but the Sequoits boast some height with junior Carly McCameron (6-0), sophomore Kelly Johnson (5-10), who played varsity last season, and sophomore newcomer Madalyn Murillo (5-11). Also new are freshman twins Ashley and Amy Reiser, a pair of guards. Borries started Ashley Reiser at the point in the Sequoits' season opener against Richmond-Burton on Tuesday and also gave Amy a start. “Those two girls, even though they're freshmen, they play like upperclassmen,” Borries said. “They have two completely different types of game. Ashley is a ballhandler, very skillful. She's very smooth. Amy has the workman-type attitude. She's not afraid to guard a bigger girl.” Sophomore Alexis Duehr was a midseason call-up last season and provided a spark with her athleticism. The Sequoits will push the tempo and keep pushing to move up the ladder in the NSC Prairie. “We've put together some good seasons,” Borries acknowledged. “But that only gets you so far. We want to get past that regional-championship game. We want to win conference.”
