Girls basketball/Fox Valley roundup

Emma Benoit scored 15 points and Sarah Finn added 12 as Hampshire’s girls basketball team rolled to a 60-18 win over Kirkland Hiawatha Thursday at the Elgin Academy Thanksgiving Tournament.

The Whip-Purs (1-1) made their first 10 field goal attempts and ran out to a 27-4 lead after one quarter.

Haley Seaton added 7 points for Hampshire, while Becky Dumoulin, Hannah Detiveaux and Claudia Lazar had 6 points each.

The Whips will play Alden-Hebron at 6:30 p.m. today in the semifinals.

Willows Academy 58, Elgin 54: Melanie Berg had 14 points to lead the Maroons, who fell behind 28-18 at halftime and couldn’t recover in a semifinal loss at the Elgin Academy tournament. Abby Pierre-Louis added 10 points for Elgin, while Jess Ramirez and Tamara Milosevic added 8 each. Elgin will play either Hampshire or Alden-Hebron at 2 p.m. Saturday for third place.

Westminster Christian 44, Somonauk 25: Maddie Versluys had 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Warriors (3-1) at the Somonauk tournament.
