The Westminster Christian girls basketball team, a Class 1A Elite Eight qualifier last season, opened the 2013-13 campaign with a 57-24 win over Sandwich Monday night at the Somonauk tournament.

Claire Speweik led the Warriors with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.

McKaila Hays added 14 points and 5 steals for the Warriors, who led 19-0 after one quarter.

Maddie Versluys had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Grayslake Central 55, Dundee-Crown 49: Jessica Laboy had 11 points to lead Dundee-Crown, but the Chargers fell in this Fox Valley Conference crossover, which was also Sarah Miller's debut as Chargers' head coach. Emily Michalski had 8 points for D-C.
