Mundelein’s Pokora commits to Augustana

Quinn Pokora’s college commitment completes Mundelein’s group of “Six Shooters.”

Pokora’s basketball coach, Dick Knar, announced Thursday that the senior point guard has committed to play basketball next year for Augustana College in Rock Island.

Pokora is the sixth Mundelein senior to make a college basketball commitment, joining Robert Knar (Northern Iowa), Sean O’Brien (Southern Illinois), Cliff Dunigan (Missouri S & T), Chino Ebube (Missouri S & T) and Dylan Delaquila (Roosevelt).

Pokora started every game for the three-peat regional champions. He averaged 10 points and 3.4 assists per game, and he led the Mustangs in 3-pointers.

“Quinn is a coach’s dream,” Dick Knar said. “I enjoyed every second of coaching and being a part of Quinn’s life. Quinn is an absolute gym rat. Augustana is getting a winner.”

Pokora capped off a great senior year by coming in third place in the state in the annual three-point shooting contest held in Peoria during the state tournament.

Lakes’ Snyder honored: For the second year in a row, Lakes boys basketball coach Chris Snyder has been named an Illinois Basketball Coaches Association co-coach of the year.

Snyder will receive the award at Illinois State University on Saturday, April 27. He led the Eagles to a 24-7 season, which included an 11-game winning streak. Lakes won the Class 3A Vernon Hills regional before losing to Carmel in the Antioch sectional semifinals.
