Streamwood named Sky team of week

The Chicago Sky has named the Streamwood varsity girls basketball team as this week's Chicago Sky Girls High School Basketball Team of the Week, presented by Under Armour.

Coach George Rosner's Sabres finished second in the Upstate Eight Conference River Division. The Sabres then won their first regional championship in 25 years and advanced to a sectional final, capping off a 22-9 season.

The Sabres have also proven they are an above average team when it comes to their activities off the basketball court and giving back to those in need.

Over the past two years, all of the winter sport teams at Streamwood have assisted the Veterans of Hines Hospital and the Fisher House; the girls basketball team led the way for the school and was able to bring in a significant amount of donations.

The Sabres also participated in the Holiday Toy Drive for the children of Hanover Township. They hosted the toy drive took at one of their basketball games and to gain admission fans were required to make a toy donation. The Sabres then visited the township offices to help sort through the thousands of toys donated by the community and finished their community efforts by serving dinner to 300 veterans for the Hanover Township Veterans Honor Roll. The Sabres exemplify what it is to be Chicago Sky High School Team of the Week.

As a Chicago Sky Girls High School Basketball Team of the Week award winner, the team will be provided a complimentary Team Night Out ticket package to the 2013 Sky Youth Sports Night game at Allstate Arena, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world's best female basketball players. During the game, they will be honored on court and will receive an award to recognizing their accomplishments.

The Sky recognized Chicagoland varsity girls “High School Basketball Team of the Week” winners through March 27.
