The Chicago Sky has named the Stevenson varsity girls basketball team as this week's Chicago Sky Girls High School Basketball Team of the Week presented by Under Armour.
The Patriots found success on court this season winning the North Suburban Conference Lake Division championship. The Patriots took that momentum to IHSA regional competition where they won their next two games and capped off a productive season by winning the regional title under coach Tom Dineen.
The Patriots were as dedicated off the court as they were on the court and along with another local club, Stevenson's Relay For Life committee, hosted a fundraiser called "Hoops for Hope." The groups sold purple T-shirts to raise money for cancer research and encouraged fans to participate in a "Purple Out" in the stands. Monies raised from the event went to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
The Patriots also collaborated with the Students Helping Soldiers organization and hosted an event called "Hoops for Heroes." This past year was the fifth time they have collaborated on the event. Money raised from this event was donated to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
As a Chicago Sky Girls High School Basketball Team of the Week award winner, the team will be provided a complimentary Team Night Out ticket package to the 2013 Sky Youth Sports Night game at Allstate Arena, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world's best female basketball players. During the game, they will be honored on the court and will receive an award to recognizing their accomplishments.
The Sky will recognize a varsity girls basketball team award winner every week until March 27.
