Scheidt is ‘money’ at state

NORMAL — Brittany Scheidt went out shooting.

Timothy Christian’s senior hit three of her last five 3-point attempts, but that wasn’t enough to beat Cumberland freshman Katie Poe in the Queen of the Hill 3-point showdown on Saturday afternoon at Redbird Arena.

Poe, the Class 2A shootout champ, was the first shooter Saturday and made eight 3s. Third up, Scheidt was 0 of 5 on the first rack, made one in the middle rack but finished strong.

Scheidt made eight 3s on Friday to win the Class 3A competition after winning a tiebreaker shootout in Thursday’s preliminary round.

“There were definitely more nerves today. You feel like the focus is on you when it’s down to four girls,” Scheidt said. “We were just trying to have fun with each other today, keep it light.”

Scheidt did made the bonus “money” ball, which meant a $500 donation to the Timothy Christian Athletic Department.

“Each day this weekend it was a little different, a different atmosphere,” Scheidt said. “I was just glad to make it this far.”
