Timothy’s Scheidt wins Class 3A 3-point contest

NORMAL — Brittany Scheidt won’t play basketball in college, but she has one last great high school memory on a college floor.

The Timothy Christian senior made eight 3-pointers to win the Class 3A 3-point Showdown on Friday in between the two 3A semifinals at Redbird Arena.

She will compete in the Queen of the Hill title, which determines the winner across all four classes, today in between the third-place game and the state final.

It’s Scheidt’s first time at the state tournament, and she’s made the most of it.

“It’s been really fun,” Scheidt said. “I was nervous, even in regionals. It’s been a great experience down here.”

Scheidt made eight 3-pointers in the preliminary round and advanced to the final four by making three more in a tiebreaker. The final shooter Friday, Kelsey Kohler of Lakes, had hit six with one rack to go but only made one of her final five shots.

“That was pretty tight,” said Timothy Christian coach Ryan DeKoekkoek.

Scheidt hit 36 3-pointers this season for Timothy Christian, leading her team in that category.

“Shooting’s always been a big part of my game,” Scheidt said. “I worked on it a lot this summer, got stronger.”
