Hampshire keeps pace in FVC Fox

Hampshire came on strong after a slow start and won its fourth straight game and ninth in 10 outingsm beating Woodstock 62-45 to remain tied in the loss column atop the Fox Valley Conference’s Fox Division Friday. Hampshire (21-4, 9-2) trailed by 2 points after a quarter but led by 8 at halftime and 16 after three quarters. Guard Tyler Crater led the Whip-Purs with 27 points, supported by center Shane Hernandez (13 points, 10 rebounds), forward Michael Dumoulin (12 points, 6 rebounds) and point guard Ryan Cork (7 assists). The victory improved the Whip-Purs to 21-4, setting a new high-water mark for wins under 11th-year coach Bob Barnett, who last won 20 games in his first season at the school. “We started out slow but got in rhythm and cruised,” Barnett said. “We didn’t shoot real well in the first half, but they didn’t either. But in the second, third and fourth quarters, I thought we played real well.”
