Boyd, Elk Grove power past Downers South

Elk Grove’s girls basketball team will get one more game on its home court this season.

Coach Kathie Swanson’s Grenadiers received a game-high 24 points from senior forward Diamond Boyd in a 48-27 victory over No. 12 Downers Grove South.

The No. 6-seeded Grenadiers (19-10) advanced to Thursday’s championship match of their own Class 4A regional to face No. 3 Wheaton North, a 61-29 winner over No. 14 Downers Grove North.

Kelly Naughton and Brianna Leach each chipped in 6 points for the Grens, who led 25-13 at intermission.

Maine West 60, Taft 38: Junior forward Brittany Collins scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for No. 7 Maine West over No. 11 Taft.

The Warriors (13-15) advance to Thursday’s championship of the Class 4A Maine South regional against the host Hawks (No. 2 seed), who defeated No. 15 Leyden 49-21.

Alexis Prosperi added 8 points and 3 rebounds for the Warriors, who received 3-pointers from Bridget Burger and Erin Ross.

St. Viator 62, Ridgewood 44: Junior guard Erin Fabbri scored a game-high 26 points for No 6-seeded St. Viator which advanced to the championship game of the Class 3A Norridge (Ridgewood) with the win over the host school seeded No. 11.

The Lions (15-16) meet No. 3 Regina on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Michelle Presslak (11 points), Jennie Horstmann (8) and Jessica Hohlweg (7) were other top scorers for St. Viator.

Zion-Benton 64, Hoffman Estates 43: No. 14 Hoffman Estates finished it season at 11-15 while falling in the semifinals of the Grayslake North Class 4A regional to No. 3 Zion-Benton.
