Libertyville tops New Trier in OT

Olivia Mayer scored 18 points, Dana Kym added 13 points and 9 rebounds, and Libertyville’s girls basketball team pulled out a 48-46 win in overtime over host New Trier in a nonconference thriller Thursday night.

Libertyville (12-13), which won its third straight, overcome a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter to take the lead, but New Trier sank a 3-pointer to beat the buzzer and force overtime.

In the extra session, Haley Hoeksel (10 points) sank a shot and Andi Katz went 2 of 2 from the line, as the Wildcats outscored the Trevians 4-2.

Mayer finished 8 of 9 from the stripe.

“Liv and Dana were phenomenal,” Libertyville coach Greg Pedersen said of Mayer and Kim. “Liv paced our team and found opportunities, while Dana crashed the boards and fortified the inside.”

Grayslake Central 34, Woodstock North 32: The visiting Rams played their typical stingy defense, and this time they scored just enough points to pull out the Fox Valley Fox Division game.

Morgan Dahlstrom’s 14 points paced Grayslake Central (17-9, 10-1), which won its fifth in a row. Taylor Peterson added a season-high 11 points for the Rams.

Carmel 37, Wauconda 20: The host Corsairs, who saw their six-game winning streak snapped Monday against Joliet Catholic, got back on the winning track, as Claire Ogrinc scored 16 points in the nonconference game.

Carmel (18-8) led 7-6 after one quarter and then shutout the Bulldogs 8-0 in the second quarter and outscored them 18-9 in the third.

Wauconda received 11 points and 5 rebounds from Lauren Nee.
