Lipp, Deichl lead Libertyville; Grayslake Central wins
A tough season for Libertyville’s boys basketball team got a little better Tuesday night.
Jack Lipp scored a game-high 26 points, and Jack Deichl added 18, as the Wildcats upset visiting Zion-Benton 63-60 in North Suburban Conference Lake Division action, snapping a four-game losing streak.
Libertyville (3-15, 1-6) led 14-8 after one quarter, 25-24 at halftime and 41-38 after three quarters. Lipp — whose season high is 27 points — scored 12 points, including two 3-pointers, in the third quarter and 10 in the fourth. Deichl scored 9 points, including a 3, in the opening quarter.
The Wildcats also got 3-pointers from Matt Varner and Drew Cayce.
Libertyville had lost 14 of its last 15 games.
Milik Yarbrough and Gabriel Ramirez each had 11 points for Zion-Benton.
Grayslake Central 68, Woodstock North 61: The host Rams snapped a five-game losing streak, overcoming a 21-10 deficit after one quarter, as Danny Reed scored 15 points in the Fox Valley Fox Division contest.
Grayslake Central (3-15, 1-5) also got 8 points apiece from Matt Loeffl and Sam Ruhlmann. Malcolm Reed and Alex Lennartz chipped in 7 each.
Grant 72, Wauconda 62: Mike Burns scored a season-high 19 points to lead host Grant in the North Suburban Prairie contest.
Grant (9-12, 3-5) also received 17 points from Tom Blanchette, 12 from Ryan Noda and 11 from Matt Malmberg.
Wauconda (10-10, 4-4) got a season-best 19 points from Dion Head and 14 from Kodey Thomas. Austin Swenson added 10.
Lakes 68, Round Lake 25: Vince Rotunno led the Eagles with 9 points on three 3-pointers.
Lakes, which got points from 11 players, improved to 15-6 and 7-1 in the North Suburban Prairie.
Crystal Lake Central 63, Grayslake North 53: A.J. Fish scored 20 points in a losing effort for the visiting Knights.
Grayslake North, which also got 10 points from Anthony Winfield, fell to 11-7 and 2-3 in the Fox Valley Fox with its second straight loss.
